Letter from SGA President

Dear Payne Theological Seminary Students,

Welcome to the 2013-14 school year at Payne Theological Seminary.  I first would like to introduce myself to you.   My name is Mishca R. Smith and I am the Student Government Association (SGA) President for this year.  For those who are beginning their matriculation here at Payne, you are now part of a great and vast legacy that began in Columbus Ohio on October 18, 1844. There is a pride that is epitomized by those who attend Payne.  Payne seminarians have an appreciation for excellence, history, community, leadership, commitment and devotion toward discovering the will of God for their lives and ministries.  It is with joy that I welcome you as a member of the Payne family.

The purpose of the SGA is to provide opportunities for self-governance along with collaborative institutional leadership within Payne Theological Seminary as well as the surrounding community.  The SGA wants you to be fully acquainted with us as we work together to make Payne and your scholastic journey successful.  It is important for you to know that the SGA officers as well as the administration and other members of the student body are here to assist you.  You can become more informed with the structure and activities of the SGA by accessing our link located on Blackboard in the “My Courses” box on the right side of the “My Payne” page.  Make sure while you are there you visit the SGA student pictorial directory and become more acquainted with some of the student body.  If you would like to be included in the pictorial directory please contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You are now beginning your ministerial preparation which will be filled with challenges, triumphs, discovery, enlightenment and revelation.  Cherish the experiences, savory the atmosphere, relish the opportunities and enjoy the fellowship but most importantly commit yourself to the practice of studying to show yourself approved.  This is your opportunity to engage in dialogue and reflection if you are open to allowing yourself to embrace the unknown with wonder.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or any member of the SGA board.  We look forward to working together with you.
