President's Welcome Letter

Greetings form Payne Theological Seminary, the only free standing African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC) seminary in the world!

Payne is honored to be a part of the AME church family of the terrific Third Episcopal District, guided by presiding prelate, Bishop McKinley Young.  No district has experienced as long standing and supportive relationship with Payne as the Third Episcopal District, which continues to nurture extraordinary servant leaders.

It would not be an overstatement to say that there is no school like Payne Theological Seminary. It is one of the oldest African American seminaries in the world having been commissioned in 1844 by the Ohio Conference to prepare Christian leaders for scholarship, social advocacy and Christian ministry. Today, more than sixteen decades after Daniel Alexander Payne accepted this mandate, Payne is recognized as one of the preeminent accredited institutions responsible for preparing men and women servant leaders for the Black church and the church universal.

Payne is honored to be  apart of the AME church family of the terrific Third Episcopal District, guided by presiding prelate, Bishop C. Garnett Henning. No district has experienced as long standing and supportive relationship with Payne as the Third Episcopal District, which continues to nurture extraordinary servant leaders.

To be a Payne graduate is to be unashamedly blunt about the beauty, brilliance and blessings of the Black church and its DNA responsibility for both the soul and sanity of African American men, women and children. Payne equips students to embrace a multidisciplinary methodology that facilitates the exegesis of the Word, gives spiritual counsel, engages public policy advocacy, restores hope, heals lives, and rebuilds infrastructures of broken communities.

The Payne Experience can be yours. Never before has the AME church issued a more clarion call for prepared theologically educated servant leadership. We invite you to join us in answering this call and bolstering the ranks of Kingdom servant leaders in the Richard and Sarah Allen tradition. For more information contact us on line or call 937-376-2946 Ext. 200.

Yours in Christ,
Leah Gaskin Fitchue, Ed.D
