Registration for Fall 2005 online semester begins August 1, 2005.
Last day to register for online classes is September 12, 2005 by 5:00pm.

Commencement Ceremony

Payne Theological Seminary will be holding its annual commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 27, 2005, at 7:00 pm. This year the seminary is granting the Master of Divinity degrees to five students: Bobbi Lynn Harewood of Clayton, OH. Thesis Title: “Talkin’ Loud and Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin’”: A Critical Perspective on Youth Ministry in the African-American Church; Carolyn B. Reece Hickman of Middletown, OH. Thesis Title: The Breakdown of Marital Communication: A Christian Perspective; Timothy Eugene Liggins of Columbus, OH. Thesis Title: Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu, Young African-American Males, and the African-American Church; Leatha Camille Lyles Stills of Huber Heights, OH. Thesis Title: Ancient Israel, African-Americans, and the Ideology of Chosenness: Unveiling the Hidden Agenda; and Mattie Lou Vaughn Augustin of Wilberforce, OH. Thesis Title: The Ethics of William Wilberforce: A Critical Examination of His Campaign Against the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. In addition, Payne is awarding four individuals certificates of completion of the Alternative Theological Education Program. These recipients are Pamela D. Fair, Yvonne W. Dudley, Rev. Gloria Barbour, and Candy R. Lewis.

This year's Distinguished Speaker is Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite, Ph.D., 11th President of Chicago Theological Seminary. Dr. Thistlethwaite works in the area of contextual theologies of liberation, specializing in issues of violence and violation. Since the September 11th attacks, she has been working diligently to promote peace and has appeared twice on ABC News NIGHTLINE. Dr. Thistlethwaite is the author and editor of twelve books and has been a translator for two different translations of the Bible. Many of Dr. Thistlethwaite's works are utilized at Payne, and she brought greetings at the inauguration of Payne Theological Seminary's current President, Dr. Leah Gaskin Fitchue.

The commencement will take place in the Chapel of the Living Savior at Payne Theological Seminary, 1230 Wilberforce-Clifton Road, Wilberforce, Ohio.
