CommunityBuild, is an educational initiative of Payne Theological Seminary designed to prepare students, clergy and lay leaders for holistic community development ministry. CommunityBuild consists of a cluster of elective courses and internships within the Payne curriculum, that focus on the perspectives, information, and skills needed to shape the future development of African American communities. Courses are designed to foster institution-building and public policy advocacy in housing, economic development, health care, recreation, and education. Emphasis is placed on the context and role of the Black Church in community development.
