Admissions Policy

Payne Theological Seminary is open to qualified men and women who hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants seeking admission from a foreign institution of collegiate standing may be admitted if they present satisfactory evidence of having completed studies equivalent to comparable American institutions.

Applicants must be endorsed by their respective denominations and meet the qualifications of Payne Theological Seminary. A graduate of an unaccredited American school or a student with a G.P.A. of less than 2.5 on a 4.0 scale may be admitted only on Academic Probation (see the regulations concerning Academic Probation).

Students admitted to Payne Theological Seminary are expected to write at the graduate level. Any student found deficient in writing skills may be required to enroll in and successfully complete a Writing Skills Program.

In order to be admitted to the program leading to the degree of Master of Divinity, the student must file with the Registrar the following forms, fee, and information:

    • A completed Application for Admission form.
    • A $50.00 Application Fee.
    • An official transcript of all college and graduate work undertaken.
    • Three letters of recommendation-one from the applicant's pastor or denominational official and two from people who are familiar with the student's academic ability, preferably college professors. For students who have been out of school for more than five years, one of the two letters  should be from a supervisor from the place of the applicant's employer.
    • An autobiography in which the applicant clearly states his/her motives for entering the Christian ministry and those people and religious experiences which have led him/her to choose a church vocation.
    • A health record and a physician's recent statement concerning the student's medical condition.

Final action upon the application for admission will not be made until all of these documents have been submitted.

For additional information or to obtain an application packet contact the Registrar/Admissions Office at (937) 376-2946 Ext. 200 or (888) 816-8933 Ext. 200 or via e-mail.
