Payne Theological Seminary is located in the historic and
scenic city of Wilberforce, Ohio, home to Wilberforce
University, Central State, and the National Afro-American
Museum and Cultural Center. This historic community is
saturated with references to prominent names and events from
African American history.
As
part of a larger academic community in Wilberforce, Payne
Theological Seminary is ideally situated for intellectual
vigor and scholarship. Considering the role the Wilberforce
community has played in the educational and cultural
development of African American life, Payne students have a
unique opportunity to experience its historical richness.
Study at Payne provides the occasion for participation in
the life of this historic community, and yet it offers an
atmosphere for quiet study and reflection.
Wilberforce is approximately three miles northeast of Xenia
(U.S. Route 42 East) and 18 miles southeast of Dayton (U.S.
Route 35). It is situated within an urban megalopolis
including the cities of Dayton and Springfield with a total
population of 700,000. Metro service is available to Dayton
from Wilberforce. Other cities within easy driving distance
include Cincinnati and Columbus.
