Wilberforce/Payne
Virtual Library Catalog (OPAL)
Dedicated in 1956, the Reverdy C. Ransom Memorial Library
supports the educational and research programs of Payne
Theological Seminary. It provides bibliographic and physical
access to recorded information in support of the learning,
teaching, cultural, and research needs of students and
faculty.
The
libraries of Payne Seminary and
Wilberforce University (WU) serve their constituents
as one virtual library. This virtual library includes
collections of books, periodicals, pamphlets, and extensive
online databases.
The
Ohio Private
Academic Libraries (OPAL) consortium online catalog
offers more than one million titles and two million
individual items to the patrons of nineteen academic
libraries in the state of Ohio. The libraries constituting
OPAL are also members of OHIOLINK, a statewide initiative
offering a shared union
database and borrowing privileges of over twenty-four
million items among seventy-four libraries.
In
addition, Payne enjoys special borrowing privileges with
United Theological Seminary (UTS) in Dayton, Methodist
Theological School of Ohio (METHESCO), Pontifical College
Josephinum, and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus.
Professionally, the
library participates as a member of the
American Theological Library
Association (ATLA), the
Ohio
Theological Library Association (OTLA), and the
Greene County archival group.
