Admissions Policy

Payne Theological Seminary is open to qualified men and women who hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants seeking admission from a foreign institution of collegiate standing may be admitted if they present satisfactory evidence of having completed studies equivalent to comparable American institutions.

Applicants must be endorsed by their respective denominations and meet the qualifications of Payne Theological Seminary.

Students admitted to Payne Theological Seminary are expected to write at the graduate level. Any student found deficient in writing skills may be required to enroll in and successfully complete a Writing Skills Program.

In order to be admitted to the program leading to the degree of Master of Divinity, the student must file with the Registrar the following forms, fee, and information:

A completed Application for Admission form. A non refundable $50.00 application fee for onsite programs or $75.00 application fee for online courses. An official transcript of all college and graduate work undertaken. Three letters of recommendation-one from the applicant's pastor or denominational official and two from people who are familiar with the student's academic ability, preferably college professors. For students who have been out of school for more than five years, one of the two letters should be from a supervisor from the place of the applicant's employer. A two-three page essay that addresses the question, "What is the Value of a Theological Education to Me?"  Please include your motives for entering the Christian Ministry, those individuals, influences, and religious experiences that led you to choose a church-related vocation . A health record and a physician's recent statement concerning the student's medical condition. Final action upon the application for admission will not be made until all of these documents have been submitted.
